2024年度 入園式でのご挨拶 - 田中茂範 名誉園長

みなさん、ご入園、ご進級おめでとうございます。

Congratulations to everyone on your enrollment at Mirai and advancement to the next grade!

今日は8回目の入園式になります。
開園して７年が経ちました。この7年間の経験から言えることがあります。
それは、きちんとした方向性（ビジョン）を持って、場づくり（環境づくり）をすることで、子どもたちは確実に、いろいろな力を身につけていく、ということです。英語も、コンピュータリテラシーも、主体性も、協調性も、みんなそうです。今日は主体性、自立心について少し話をさせてください。

Today marks our eighth entrance ceremony, and I can confidently say, based on my seven years of experience since the opening of Mirai Kindergarten, that children will undoubtedly acquire a variety of valuable skills such as English, computer literacy, independence, and cooperativeness if we provide an environment with a clear vision and purpose.

Today, I would like to speak about the importance of fostering independence and self-reliance in our students.

Taylor Swift。みなさんご存じの歌手だと思います。
年収は２００億円と言われ、その３分の１は寄付するという、ダントツの魅力的なトップアーチストです。
「なぜここでTaylor Swift？」と思われるかもしれません。

Taylor Swift, a renowned singer whom I'm sure you all have heard of, is one of the most successful and appealing top artists today. Her annual income is estimated at $20 billion, an impressive sum. However, what's more remarkable is that she donates one-third of her earnings to charity. You might be wondering why I'm mentioning Taylor Swift now.

余談ですが、ぼくは、長らく高校の検定教科書作成の責任者を務めており、教科書に何を載せるか、いつも考えています。
そして、Taylor Swiftなら最有力候補だと考えているところです。
実現できるかどうかわかりませんが。

As a side note, I have been in charge of writing high school textbooks for a long time, and I am always thinking about what to include in the textbooks.  And I am thinking that Taylor Swift is one of the best candidates. I don't know if I can make it happen, though.

さて、彼女が2年ほど前にNew York 大学でスピーチをしました。
You are on your own now. というタイトルでした。
どんな時も、自分を信じて、自ら物事を決めて行こうという内容です。
You are on your own、自分の足で立つ、まさに自立です。

About two years ago, she delivered a speech at New York University titled 'You are on your own now.' The speech centered around the importance of believing in oneself and making independent decisions. As the title suggests, it emphasizes standing on your own feet and cultivating genuine self-reliance.

マリア・モンテソーリも言っています。
「援助なしに、自分で行動しようとしている子どもの邪魔をしてはいけない」と。
子どもが、主体的に物事にかかわるなかで自立は育つからです。
「夢中になっているときは、いつもこどもが主役です」。
この幼児園では、子どもたちの自主性が育つ環境をとても大事にしています。

Maria Montessori once stated, "Never interfere with a child who is attempting to act independently without assistance." A child's sense of independence thrives when they are actively involved in tasks through their own initiative. When children are deeply engrossed in their activities, they are at the heart of their own immersive world. Mirai Kindergarten places a strong emphasis on creating an environment that fosters the growth of children's autonomy and self-reliance.

唐突ですが、OECD（経済協力開発機構）は、これからの世界はVUCAであると述べています。
Vはvolatileで「揮発性の」ということで、不安定な状態を表します。
Uはunclearで「見通しがはっきりしない」ということ、そして、Cはcomplexで「複雑な」そして、Aはambiguous で「両義的」で答えがはっきりしない、ということです。
つまり、VUCAとは、「何が起こるかわからない不確実な世界」ということです。

The OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) has noted that the future will be characterized by VUCA, an acronym representing volatile, unclear, complex, and ambiguous.

In other words, VUCA describes "a world marked by uncertainty and unpredictability."

Taylor Swift もこうした不確実な世界にあって You’re on your own.であれ、と呼び掛けたのです。
日本語では「たくましくあれ」といった感じです。
たくましさとは、自分で考え、判断し、行動する力のことです。自主性ということです。

Taylor Swift encouraged the audience in her speech to embrace the idea of 'You are on your own' in this uncertain world. This concept aligns with the Japanese phrase 'Takumashikuare,' which translates to 'be strong and have complete confidence in yourself.' In this context, strength implies the ability to think, judge, and act independently, highlighting self-autonomy and independence.

どんなに幼くても、子どもは、環境さえ与えられれば、自分で考え、判断し、そして行動していく。
これも、モンテソーリの考えです。つまり、行動を妨げなければ、子どもは自由を確保し、自立していくということです。

As one of Montessori's philosophies suggests, regardless of how young children are, they will independently think, judge, and act if provided with a suitable environment. Essentially, children cultivate freedom and independence when we (adults) refrain from interfering with their behavior.

大切なのは、常に「今・ここ」です。
学びは将来のためにだけあるのではありません。
そうではなく、今ここの学びのひとつひとつがリアルであり、それがたくましさ、主体性、自立心を育ていくのです。

世界は変わっていきます。
しかし、どんなに変わろうと、一人ひとりがたくましさを備えていれば、豊かな人生にしていくことができるはずです。

What matters most is what is happening "here and now." Learning is not just for the future; each moment of learning in the present is significant and fosters resilience, a sense of agency, and self-reliance.

The world is constantly evolving, yet children with inner strength can and will find fulfillment and enrich their lives despite the changes.  

この幼児園では、みなさんが夢中になる機会をたくさん作っていきます。
卒園するときには、この幼児園を選んで本当によかったと思っていただけるよう、頑張ってまいります。
楽しいことをたくさん経験していってください。
